This year’s CPD Distribution Forest Pines Classic Pro-Am tournament proved to be an exciting close run affair which finally ended in a tie.
Brian Rimmer of Little Aston, the current PGA Midland Region Captain, and Andy Stokes of Lea Marston both hit rounds of 70 to finish 3 under par and secure the trophy, which was sponsored by CPD Distribution plc for the fourth consecutive year. Their performances were impressive given the difficult conditions of wind and intermittent showers.
Thirty three professionals gathered for the one day tournament, which took place alongside a highly competitive Pro-Am competition involving ninety nine amateurs. The thirty three amateur teams, formed from CPD customers and key suppliers, plus celebrity guest and former England World Cup 1966 defender Jack Charlton OBE, enjoyed an excellent day of golf and did not have their spirits dampened by the weather on this challenging championship course,. Additional excitement was provided at the 16th hole where there was an opportunity to win a MINI Cooper, which amateurs could donate to a charity of their choice.
All proceeds from the hole-in-one competition, plus a unique putting event on CPD’s own Speedline Raised Access Flooring System, were donated to CPD’s adopted charity – Marie Curie Cancer Care. This was further boosted by a generously supported auction after the evening’s gala dinner.
A cheque for an incredible grand total of £7,000 was presented to Marie Curie volunteer fundraiser Mary Fotheringham, which will go towards the ongoing work of the charity’s North and East Yorkshire branch, helping patients and families to benefit from the special nursing care that Marie Curie provides. |
